Slogan Patches and Picture Badges: How to Combine Designs

A slogan patch and a picture badge can work together without competing for attention. The key is to decide what you want someone to notice first: the words, the artwork or the relationship between them. A little planning helps you create an arrangement that reads clearly on a jacket, vest or fabric bag.

Start with the Meaning, Not Just the Colours

Read every slogan in full before adding it to a layout. A humorous line, a positive message and a riding slogan create different moods. Our text patch collection includes English and German wording, sarcasm, biker slogans and positive messages. Some designs contain strong language or adult themes, so consider the wording and where you intend to wear it.

Place your chosen slogan beside the picture motif and look at them as one composition. Does the image support the message, or does the pairing suggest something you did not intend? Two unrelated designs may look attractive together while communicating a confusing statement.

Give One Design the Lead

If the words are the main feature, leave clear space around the lettering and use a smaller picture badge as an accent. If the artwork is the focal point, choose a text patch that complements rather than crowds it.

You do not need to centre every element. Try placing a narrow slogan above, below or to one side of the image, then compare the result from a distance.

Use Colour as a Connection

A colour repeated in both patches can link two different shapes. Black-and-white lettering can also contrast with a coloured picture motif. Compare the actual patch colours with your fabric rather than assuming every combination will stand out equally.

Too many competing accents can make it difficult to see where the arrangement begins. Try a smaller selection first and add further designs only when they contribute to the overall look.

Keep Each Sentence Separate

When several text patches sit close together, viewers may read them as one longer message. Leave visible fabric between unrelated phrases. Avoid letting the last word of one patch appear to continue into the first word of another.

Check whether a seam, strap or fold interrupts the sentence. A slogan that is readable on a flat table may be partly hidden when the garment is worn or the bag is carried.

Test Three Arrangements

  • Words first: One clear slogan with a small image beside it.
  • Picture first: A larger image motif with a short text patch underneath.
  • Side by side: Two similarly sized designs separated by visible fabric.

Use the dimensions on each product page and lay the patches out before attaching them. Photograph the alternatives from the same angle so you can compare spacing, colour and readability.

Attach Only After Checking the Materials

Follow the garment care label and the patch backing instructions. Iron-on application requires both to permit the necessary heat. For a sew-on method, check that the material can be stitched appropriately and keep pockets, fastenings and unwanted lining layers clear. Seek help from a repair specialist for difficult fabrics.

Explore Text and Motif Designs

Browse text patches, biker slogans and funny quotes, then compare them with our biker patch motifs. Choose wording you understand and artwork you enjoy, and give both enough room to be seen.
